There are clear differences between a standard desktop and the SC21 with size the most obvious. About the size of a large-ish paperback book the SC21 has a much smaller foot print. The SC21's fanless nature coupled with its cooler running significantly increases where it can be sited. On or under a desk or shop counter? Of course. In a confined space? Confined spaces are fine though ideally with some ventilation.
On the back of monitors using a VESA mount? Now that’s something you can’t do with a desktop PC. Securely locked down on a desk or shelf? That’s fine too. In a nutshell it can be sited almost anywhere. |

| Some not so obvious differences are inside. If your business needs a fanless PC you should look at the SC21. You may have links to the medical profession where standard desktop PCs with fans are linked to air, and hence bacteria, circulation. Perhaps your SC21s will be installed in a dusty work environment where PCs with fans draw in the dust and cause the desktop PC to fail far too soon. Maybe space is limited at your Point of Sale (POS) or Call Centre. At its simplest your offices air conditioning may be struggling to keep the temperature down in hot weather. The SC21 is perfect for these and many other circumstances. |

| FreshBoot™ at its simplest “protects” the SC21’s C: partition by directing all writes to a hidden partition. By using FreshBoot™, downloaded viruses / spyware can simply be removed by re-booting. FreshBoot™ can also be used to maintain a maximum of 9 Restore Points which are similar to the “snapshots” taken with server virtualisation technology when saving a server at a particular point in time. How are Restore Points used? You may have applications that are standard for everyone, applications that are departmental based and applications that are for managers only. If the SC21 is to be moved between user or department, the relevant applications can be completely removed without leaving any stray entries - e.g. in the Registry - on the SC21. | FreshDeploy™ is an amazing piece of software. If you list all the steps it takes to put a desktop PC on someone’s desk – deliver it to the IT department, unpack it, install company image and applications, install anti-virus and anti-spyware software, install the user’s individual software, re-pack it, deliver it to the user, set it up on the user’s desk - and reduce that to send the SC21 direct to user, ask the user to plug it in to the network or to the Internet after which the SC21 “calls home” and provisions itself to a pre-determined configuration. That pre-determined configuration must be defined somewhere and that’s in RES Wisdom, once only, where it can then be applied to any number of SC21s anywhere in the world.
